Transfer of Holme
A letter dated April 17th had been received from Mr Hawes, Clerk to the Bakewell Rural District Council stating that application had been made to the county council by the Bakewell Urban District Council for the transfer of a portion of the Hamlet of Holme from Great Longstone to Bakewell.
And that the Rural District Council would be glad to be furnished with the views of the Parish Council on the matter.
The Parish Council after consultation with some of the principal landowners and ratepayers directed the Clerk to reply as follows.
May 2nd 1902
Dear Sir,
The Parish Council of Great Longstone have had a meeting to consider the questions raised in yours of the 17th of April and I am directed to express their opinion thereupon.
They consider that the interests of the Parish of Great Longstone will be most seriously affected by the proposed transfer of the Hamlet of Holme to the Urban District of Bakewell especially because the financial position may be considerably altered by the annexation of this valuable portion of the parish to the Urban District of Bakewell, on that ground the proposal ought to be opposed.
The Parish Council, after consultation with some of the principal landowners and ratepayers and expressing their opinion are willing in conjunction with the Rural District Council, to consider any definite proposal of the Bakewell Urban District Council in regard to the actual portion to be transferred and having regard to the equitable readjustment of the burdens and liabilities of the Parish of Great Longstone.
yours truly
Isaac Shimwell
A. Hawes Esq.
Clerk to the Rural District Council
