Eighty first Meeting of the Parish Council
held in the School Room Great Longstone
on September 23rd 1902

Messrs Coe, Dixon, Spanton and Ward, and Shimwell (Clerk)

The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and confirmed

The Parish Council directed the Clerk to convey their sympathy to Mrs Orr & family in the bereavement they have recently sustained by the death of Mr Orr, and also to Mr Coe & family by the death of Mrs Coe.

Election of Parish Councillor

It was proposed by Mr Spanton and seconded by Mr Dixon that Mr J. N. Thornhill be elected a Parish Councillor to fill the vacancy made by the death of Mr Orr, carried unanimously.

Coronation Festivities

Proposed by Mr Ward and seconded by Mr Coe that a vote of thanks be sent to Mr Marples for his kindness to the inhabitants of Great Longstone in connection with the coronation festivities.

Stoke Flat Water Scheme

The Clerk was directed to write to Messrs Sterling and Swann, Engineers to the Water Scheme, asking them when the connections will be laid in to the main and also request them to instruct the contractors to remove the surplus stones which are lying about the village at inconvenient places.

Footpaths

It was proposed that Mr Wm Furniss be employed to repair the footpath with gravel between the cottage gardens, and also the jennel in the Miers between the property of Mr George Furness and Miss Hall.

Mr Dixon proposed that Mr Samuel Hallows be employed to improve the footpath leading to the Moor.

Assistant Overseer

The Assistant Overseer made application for an increase of salary owing to the extra duties caused by making and collecting the Special Sanitary Rate.

The Council after consultation unanimously resolved that the salary of the Assistant Overseer be Twenty seven pounds ten shillings per annum.
