Council Meeting – 23rd September 1897

Thirty-seventh meeting of the Parish Council held in the School Room, Great Longstone,
on Thursday, September 23rd, 1897.

Present: Mr. S. Johnson (Chairman), Messrs. J. Wood, H. A. Stanton, and I. Shimwell (Clerk).

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

The Chairman stated that he had received 4s for toll on the Village Green during the Wakes week, and that he had paid 2s 6d for cleaning up the place after they had removed.

Sewage Scheme

The Clerk laid before the meeting a letter which he had received from Mr. Hawes, Clerk to the Rural District Council, stating that plans for the proposed sewage scheme for Great Longstone as prepared by Messrs. Stoney and Sons were deposited at his office for inspection, and asking if the Parish Council would send a deputation to inspect the same.

It was unanimously decided that any of the Parish Council who wished should attend at his offices on Monday the 27th to inspect the scheme.

The Clerk was directed to inform Mr. Hawes of this arrangement.

Gilder Quarry

The Clerk stated that he had seen Mr. F. J. Taylor, Solicitor of Bakewell, respecting the Gilder Quarry. Mr. Taylor said that the action could not be tried in the Bakewell County Court, and asked if the Parish Council would suggest any other place where the case might be tried.

It was unanimously decided that no action be taken in the matter.
