67. Churchyard (Minutes 50 & 57)

To the letter sent to the Vicar in pursuance of the resolution of this Council, the following reply has been returned:

May 23rd, 1895

Dear Sir,

In regard to the state of Longstone Churchyard and attempts at the present rate of interments, the extension of the Churchyard may not be considered a matter of great urgency; yet the most satisfactory and feasible way of extending the present Churchyard has received, and continues doubtless to receive, due consideration from myself and the people of the parish. The establishment of a Grave Yard at Wardlow in connection with the new Church there has been an advantage to Longstone in relieving that side of the parish to a certain extent.

I may point out, however, that the question is one which concerns not only Great Longstone but the whole of the Parish.

Yours faithfully,
G. Andrews

The Clerk to the Great Longstone Parish Council

68. Sanitary Matters (Minutes 42, 49 & 60)

There is as yet no communication from the District Council in reply to the memorial, but it is known that the Medical Officer of the District has made an inspection and has reported to his Council. It is probable that the result will soon be made known to this Council.

69. Postal Facilities (Minute 61)

The memorial to the Postmaster-General has been acknowledged and is stated to be under consideration.

70. Gilder Quarry (Minute 62 continued)

The Clerk reported that he had, at the Bakewell Union, read Highway Accounts referring to Longstone Township. He had not found any reference therein to rentals received in respect of Gilder Quarry but had found entries for rent received in respect of the Outlands Quarry.

71. Houseton Lane Head Trust Money (Minute 64)

In pursuance of the notice given at the last meeting, the following resolution was moved by Mr. Buzzard, seconded by Mr. Stanton, and passed unanimously:

That a Committee be appointed to wait upon Mr. John Thornhill to enquire into the present position of the funds of the Houseton Lane Head Charity.

On the motion of Mr. Bates, seconded by Mr. S. Johnson, it was further resolved that Mr. James Orr and Mr. Buzzard be a Committee to carry out the foregoing resolution.

72. Village Pumps

It was reported that the pump requires repair, and the Clerk was instructed to write to the Highway Surveyor, Mr. Toft, drawing his attention to it.

73. Standing Orders

On the representation of the Clerk that par. 7 of the Standing Orders in reference to the summoning of the Council meetings contained an instruction not easily to be complied with, it was decided to bring up the subject for consideration at the next Council meeting.

Council Meeting

The next meeting of the Parish Council was fixed for Thursday, the 27th of June.

Signed:
Arthur Bates, Chairman
June 27th, 1895
