Forty-second meeting of the Parish Council held in the School Room, Great Longstone, on Monday, March 14th, 1898.
Present: Mr S. Johnson (Chairman), Messrs J. Johnson, J. Wood, and I. Shimwell (Clerk).
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.
The Clerk laid before the meeting the following Agreement to Submit to Arbitration in the matter of the Gilder Stone Quarry, when it was unanimously decided to sign the same.

An Agreement made the 14th day of March one thousand eight hundred and ninety-eight between The Parish Council of Great Longstone in the County of Derby of the one part and George Thomas Wright, Esquire, of Great Longstone aforesaid of the other part.
Whereas the piece of land coloured green on the plan hereto annexed contains a quarry known as “Gilders” or “Gilder,” and the said Parish Council claim the ownership of the said quarry, or certain rights in regard to it, and to the said piece of land in which it is situate. The whole of which piece of land and quarry the said George Thomas Wright alleges to be within, as owner in fee simple thereof, free from all encumbrances whatsoever and as part of his estate.
Now it is agreed between the parties hereto that it be referred to His Honour Judge William Cecil Smyly, Q.C., to award and determine the rights of the said parties in regard to the said piece of land and quarry, and that the provisions in the First Schedule to the Arbitration Act, 1889, shall apply to this submission, except that one month shall be substituted in the sub-section C for three months.
As witness the hands of the Chairman presiding and two other members of the said Council affixed at a Meeting of the said Council held the day and year first above written, and the hand of the said George Thomas Wright.
