Council Meeting – 16th April 1898
Saturday, April 16th, 1898
Forty-third meeting of the Parish Council held in the School Room, Great Longstone,
on Saturday, April 16th, 1898.
Present: Mr S. Johnson (Chairman), Messrs J. Johnson, Wood, Bennett, Furniss, Spanton, and I. Shimwell (Clerk).
Each member signed the Statutory Declaration of Acceptance of Office as a Parish Councillor.
On the motion of Mr Furniss, seconded by Mr Wood, Mr J. Johnson was unanimously elected Chairman of the Parish Meeting for Council for the ensuing year.
The minutes of the last meeting were then read and confirmed.
Mr Spanton was then unanimously elected Vice-Chairman for the ensuing year.
Overseers
On the motion of Mr Furniss, seconded by Mr Spanton, Messrs J. Johnson and Chas. Johnson were unanimously elected as Overseers of the Poor for the ensuing year.
Assistant Overseer
Mr Shimwell having handed in his resignation as Assistant Overseer to expire on the 29th inst., it was unanimously decided that a notice be posted on the Public Notice Board inviting applications for the post to be sent in to the Chairman at a meeting to be held on Friday the 29th inst.
