The following proposal was submitted to the Parish Council by G. J. Maples Esq. of Thornbridge Hall.

Copy

To the Parish Council of Great Longstone.

I, George Jobson Maples of Thornbridge Hall in the County of Derby, Esquire, being desirous that the whole of the Public Footpath called the Highlow Meadow Footpath, situated in the rural parishes of Ashford and Great Longstone within the district of the Rural District Council of Bakewell and leading from the Ashford and Longstone Road to the Hassop and Ashford Road, that is to say from the stakes marked A at the junction of the said footpath with the Ashford and Longstone Road to the stakes marked B at the junction of the said footpath with the said Hassop and Ashford Road, being in length 721 yards, should be stopped up as shortly as possible in pursuance of the Statutes in such case made and provided, give you notice in writing of such my desire and do further propose that the said footpath shall be stopped up at my expense, and I hereby submit to you such my wish and proposal accordingly.

As witness my hand this Fourth day of May 1899.

G. J. Maples

On the motion of Mr Dixon seconded by Mr Spanton the following resolution was unanimously passed:

That this Council gives its sanction to Mr Maples to close a public footpath known as the Highlow Meadow Footpath as contained in the foregoing proposal, as in their opinion it is unnecessary, and that public notice of the same be posted in the usual posting places.

On the motion of Mr Dixon seconded by Mr Coe the following resolution was unanimously passed:

That the Council write upon Mr Maples to ascertain upon what terms he would let them have a piece of land near the Railway for sewage outfall works.

Signed

W. R. Hill-Dixon
Chairman
