Council Meeting – 28th September 1907
One hundred and sixth Meeting of the Parish Council
held in the School-room Great Longstone
on the 25th September 1907
Present
Mr A. W. J. Eyre (Chairman), Mr W. Orr, Mr A. J. Skidmore and J. Shimwell (Clerk)
The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed
Cutting Hedges
The Clerk was instructed to request the occupiers of the allotment gardens adjoining the footroad, to cut the hedges which forms their respective fences.
Gravelling Footpath
It was reported to the meeting that the gravelling of the allotment gardens footpath had been done satisfactorily.
Rubbish Tip
Mr Eyre informed the meeting that he had seen Mr Toft the Rural District Surveyor, and he had promised to discontinue depositing road dirt in the Gilder Quarry. He also agreed to send a roadman on condition that the Parish Council provide a man also, to level the rubbish already deposited in the quarry, so that the tip may be kept in order in future.
Mr Eyre offered to arrange with the roadman and it was suggested that Mr Booker be employed by the Parish Council.
School Manager
A letter was read in reply from Mr Hughes-Hallett respecting the appointment of Mr Thornhill as School manager. It was proposed by Mr Orr and seconded by Mr Skidmore that the matter be postponed until the next meeting, the Clerk to enter it on the agenda when calling the next meeting.
Midland Railway
Mr Eyre proposed and Mr Orr seconded that the Clerk send the following letter to the Midland Railway Company
Dear Sir,
I am instructed by the Great Longstone Parish Council to draw your attention to the unsafe state of the public footpath at the foot of the railway embankment near to Longstone Hole Bridge, between Hassop and Longstone Stations.
The cause of the annoyance is owing to large cinders rolling on to the footpath when refuse is being deposited on the embankment.

Ownership of Land
It was decided that the question as to the ownership of a piece of land situate at the Outrake be postponed until the next meeting.
Assistant Overseer
Mr Skidmore proposed and Mr Orr seconded that subject to the approval of the Overseers, the sum of £5 be voted to the Assistant Overseer for collecting the Special Sanitary Rate made the 15th of June 1907.
