Ninety third Meeting of the Parish Council
held in the School-room Great Longstone
on the 28th March 1905.

The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and confirmed.

Footpaths

In reply to this Council’s applications the Rural District Council Surveyor wrote saying that he would have the footpath regravelled from the end of the Church Lane to the end of the village.

And he also stated that he had brought the question of constructing a new footpath along side of the Miers Road, before the Rural District Council, but they did not authorize him to construct the path, he mentioned that the work might be done at some future time.

Miers Road

In reply to this Council’s request for the transfer of the Miers Road, the Clerk of the County Council stated that he had brought the matter before the Highways Committee, but they decided not to make any recommendation thereon.

Public Tip

Application having been made by this Council for powers to be delegated to them with respect to Scavenging, in order that a suitable place should be provided for the villagers to deposit their general rubbish, and also to prevent broken earthenware and rubbish from being deposited in the lanes, as is done at the present time.

A letter was received from Mr Hawes with reference to the application stating that the Local Government Board wished to be furnished with precise information on the following points, viz:

(1) What land is proposed to be acquired for the deposit of broken earthenware and general rubbish and the terms upon which such land can be bought or rented.

(2) How often and by whom the contents of the “tip” are to be removed.

(3) What means will be taken to prevent the “tip” being used for fæcal matter or putrescible refuse the accumulation of which would cause serious nuisance.

It was decided that before replying to the above questions an investigation should be made of the Outrake Quarry as to its being suitable for a public tip, and to report at the next meeting.

School Manager

Mr Andrew proposed and Mr Ward seconded that Mr Thornhill be appointed Representative Manager of the Longstone National School for a period of two years to expire 31st March 1907.

Assistant Overseer

On the recommendation of the Overseers Mr Thornhill proposed and Mr Ward seconded that the sum of £5 be voted to the Assistant Overseer for collecting the Special Sanitary Rate made 30th November 1904.

Holme Meal Charity

A cheque for £8.6.10 had been drawn in favour of Mrs Green for supplying Dole Meal.

 

A cheque for £13.10 was drawn in favour of J. Shimwell for the following expenses, viz:
