held in the School-room Great Longstone
on the 14th of April 1905.
Present
Mr W. R. P. Dixon (Chairman)
Messrs Spanton, Thornhill and Ward, and Shimwell (Clerk)
The Minutes of the last Meeting were read and confirmed.
Chairman
Mr Spanton proposed and Mr Thornhill seconded that Mr Dixon be elected Chairman of the Parish Council for the ensuing year.
Vice-Chairman
Mr Dixon proposed and Mr Ward seconded that Mr Spanton be elected Vice-Chairman of the Parish Council for the ensuing year.
Overseers
Mr Thornhill proposed and Mr Ward seconded that Mr H. A. Spanton and Mr A. J. Skidmore be appointed Overseers of the Poor for the ensuing year.
Church Lane
The Clerk was instructed to draw the attention of the County Council Surveyor to the untidy state of the Church Lane owing to cattle being regularly driven upon it, and to ask if he would allow a roadman to go over the above road every week in order that it might be in a better state for the parishioners who attend divine worship at the Church.
Public Tip
Referring to Mr Hawes letter entered in the Minutes of last Meeting respecting public scavenging and tips, the Clerk was instructed to reply as follows viz:
(1) The chief object of the Parish Council in applying for powers to deal with scavenging was in order to prevent people from depositing rubbish in the lanes and highways as they do at the present time, and that they intend using an old quarry as a “tip” belonging to the Parish which lies elevated from the village and is about quarter of a mile distant from the nearest house.
(2) The capacity of the quarry is so large that the question of removal of the refuse is not likely to arise for many years.
(3) There is no intention on the part of the Parish Council to undertake any responsibility or incur any expense in regard to the removal or disposal of any fæcal matter or putrescible refuse, as such refuse will continue to be used on the land as manure for agricultural purposes.
