One hundred and eighth meeting of the Parish Council
held in the School-room Great Longstone
on the 18ᵗʰ Decʳ 1907

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed

School Manager

Mr Wager proposed, and Mr Orr seconded, and carried unanimously, that the appointment of Mr Thornhill as representative manager of the Longstone National School, be rescinded.

And it was proposed by Mr Skidmore, and seconded by Mr Wager, and carried unanimously that Mr Eyre be elected to succeed Mr Thornhill as School manager, for the period ending 31ˢᵗ March 1910.

The Clerk was instructed to report the above proceedings to the County Council.

Midland Railway Co.

The Clerk was instructed to write to the Midland Railway Co thanking them for the improvement made to the footpath at Longstone Hole Bridge.

Holme Bank Footpath

Mr Eyre proposed and Mr Orr seconded that the Clerk write to the Bakewell Urban District Council drawing their attention to the bad state of the footroad leading from Holme Bridge by the Chert Quarry towards Crackendale, as it is in a dangerous state owing to a quantity of loose and projecting stones lying in the footway, and to request them to have it repaired, as it is much used by the people of Longstone.

Gravelling of Footpaths

Owing to several footpaths in the village needing to be repaired, it was decided that the Clerk ask Messrs Wagers if they would tender a price for the supply and spreading of gravel on the undermentioned footpaths, viz —

  • 6 loads of gravel for the footpath across Mill Lane Closes.
  • 4 loads for the footpath from the allotment gardens to the Cricket Field.
  • and 3 loads to the ginnel between Mr G. J. Furniss’s garden and property occupied by Mr Bell.

Refuse Tip

Mr Orr proposed and Mr Bridge seconded and carried unanimously that a notice board be fixed at the “refuse tip” printed as follows

Anyone depositing refuse in this Tip must spread the same

Any person not complying with this order will be prosecuted

It was decided that Mr W. J. Eyre be asked to supply and fix the notice board at as reasonable a cost as possible.

Parish Property

On the proposition of Mr Eyre, it was decided that the Members of this Council meet at the Outrake tomorrow (the 19ᵗʰ instᵗ) at 1 p.m. to inspect a small plot of land which is supposed to belong to the Parish.

Also to inspect the fences on the land let to Mr J. Lomas, which are said to be in a dilapidated state.

Cheque Book

Mr Bridge proposed and Mr Orr seconded that the Clerk be authorised to procure a Parish Council cheque book containing 30 cheques.

Holme Meal Charity

A cheque value £10 – 3 – 0 had been received from the Duke of Devonshire for the Holme Meal Charity, and the portion of the above due to the Churchwardens of Bakewell being £1 – 5 – 4 had been paid to them, which with last years balance of 4⁄– leaves the sum of £8 – 18 – 0 to be distributed.

Tenders having been invited for supplying Dole Meal, the only one received was from Mr Green as follows, viz —

Oatmeal at 1/2 per peck
Good Flour at 1/8 per stone

This being the only tender received it was accepted, and the Clerk was instructed to arrange for the Dole to be given on the 1ˢᵗ of January.
