Council Meeting – 11th October 1900
October 11th 1900
Sixty ninth Meeting of the Parish Council held in the School Room, Great Longstone on Octr 11th 1900.
Present: Mr H. A. Spanton (Chairman)
Messrs Dixon, Coe & Ward and J. Shimwell (Clerk).
The Minutes of the last meeting were read & confirmed.
It was resolved that this Council hereby records its deep sorrow at the death of Mr Thomas Shimwell, the first clerk to the Council & for many years Overseer. They feel that his death will be a great loss to the Parish in many ways, as his thorough knowledge of all parochial matters was of great value.
As Mr Eyre has not yet put up launders on his buildings at Cracken Jennell, the Clerk was directed to again write to him on the matter.
Complaints having been made that the Village pump opposite the White Lion Inn is out of repair, the Clerk was directed to write to Mr Hawley, the District Council surveyor, & ask him to see that it is put into proper repair.
A letter having been received from Mr Hawes, clerk to the Bakewell Rural District Council, wishing to be furnished with the observations of the Parish Council on the following questions, viz:
-
Is it desirable that the Rural District Council should undertake the public scavenging in your parish?
-
Is there in the parish any disused pinfold or waste space belonging to the parish, or which could be acquired, suitable for the purposes of a public ashpit?
-
If the Parish Council (or Meeting) is of opinion that public ashpits should be provided please state the precise purpose for which they would be used.
The Clerk was directed to reply to the foregoing questions as follows:
-
They do not consider that the scavenging would be any better performed by the District Council than it is now and therefore it is unnecessary to incur any expense entailed by public scavenging.
-
We have belonging to the Parish a space suitable and at present being used as a public ashpit.
The Clerk was authorized to order 500 forms of Notice of Parish Meeting, 250 long envelopes & 250 square envelopes.
Signed
G. Andrew
