Annual Parish Meeting – 31st March 1897

Minutes of the Third Annual Assembly of the Parish Meeting held in the School Room, Great Longstone, on Wednesday March 31st, 1897.

Mr. James Orr, Chairman of the Parish Council, occupied the Chair.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed.

Business of the Meeting

The Clerk stated that the meeting was assembled in pursuance of notice duly given:

  1. To receive the Accounts of the various Parochial Charities.
  2. To discuss the propriety of adopting the Lighting & Watching Act.
  3. To discuss any other parish affairs thereon.

Parochial Charities

The accounts of the various Parochial Charities were read to the meeting.

Lighting & Watching Act

Mr. Stanton moved this meeting to empower the Parish Council to take the necessary steps for the adoption of the Lighting and Watching Act, 1833, with a view to the lighting of the village at a cost not exceeding £30.

Mr. Andrew seconded the motion.

On the motion being put to the meeting, 3 votes for and 2 against.

The motion was therefore declared carried.
