Report on Rural District Council Work
As the Chairman was the representative of this parish on the Rural District Council, he wished to say a few remarks, with regard to his work on that Council
viz—
He was strongly opposed to the system of boarding out Workhouse Children, on the ground that in his opinion it could not be carried out satisfactorily, or as economically as it is at the present time.
He had been at considerable expense in opposing the erection of a Central Hospital which would have been a serious burden on the ratepayers, and stated that a more satisfactory arrangement had been arrived at whereby the Rural District Council could hire a sufficient number of beds to meet the requirements of the District.
The Chairman stated that he together with Mr P. Ward of Matlock had undertaken the voluntary work of making an inventory of the whole of the Workhouse which had taken up a considerable amount of time lasting for a period of about seven weeks, and they had been engaged several hours on most days, thereby saving the Ratepayers the cost of a professional valuer.
He also drew the attention to the extravagance of the County Council, stating that 26 years ago their call was £4,000, whereas at the present time it was £19,000
On the proposition of Mr. Bridge seconded by Mr. Orr, it was carried that a vote of thanks be passed to Mr. Eyre for the interest he had taken in parochial affairs on the Rural District Council
A. W. J. Eyre
