Council Meeting – 13th April 1910

One hundred and twenty sixth meeting of the Parish Council
held at the residence of Mr Eyre “The Mount” Great Longstone
on the 13th of April 1910.

Present
Mr A. W. J. Eyre (Chairman) Messrs J. Bridge, W. Orr, A. J. Skidmore, J. Wager & I. Shimwell (Clerk).

The minutes of the last meeting were read & signed.

Chairman

It was proposed by Mr Bridge, seconded by Mr Orr and carried unanimously that Mr Eyre be elected Chairman of the Parish Council for the ensuing year.

Mr Orr proposed and Mr Wager seconded and it was carried unanimously that Mr Bridge be Vice-Chairman.

A vote of thanks was accorded to the Clerk for his additional services in connection with the Fire Extinguishing appliance and Veterinary Lectures.

Rate Basis

It was proposed by Mr Eyre seconded by Mr Bridge and carried unanimously that a vote of thanks be recorded to Mr Orr for giving his expenses in connection with his journey to Derby respecting the Rate Basis as stated in the previous minutes.

Charity Accounts

The Clerk stated that he had received no reply from the Vicar respecting the charity accounts and it was decided to adjourn the matter until the next meeting.

Footpaths

Mr Orr proposed and Mr Bridge seconded and it was carried that Messrs Wagers tender be accepted, whereby they agree to supply 18 loads of gravel to the footpaths near the White Lion Inn & Cracken jennel at 3/- per load including Royalty.

It was decided to employ Mr W. Eyre of Town Head to prepare the surface and spread the gravel.

The work to be supervised by Mr Bridge.

Appointment of Overseers

It was proposed by Mr Eyre seconded by Mr Skidmore and carried that Mr Wm Orr and Mr Samuel Johnson be appointed Overseers of the Poor for the ensuing year.

Mr Bridge proposed and Mr Skidmore seconded and it was carried that Mr Henry Cox be appointed Overseer of the Poor for the ensuing year.

Demonstration

In consequence of the dry weather it was stated that the Stoke Flat water supply was rather low. It was therefore decided that a demonstration of the working of the Fire Extinguishing appliances be held on some Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock, the date to be definitely fixed and arrangements made by Mr Eyre & the Clerk.

It was recommended that handbills should be printed announcing the demonstration.
