Council Meeting – 24th March 1910
One hundred and twenty fifth meeting of the Parish Council
held at the residence of Mr Eyre “The Mount” Great Longstone
on the 24ᵗʰ of March 1910.

The minutes of the last meeting were read & signed.
County Rate Basis
The Clerk stated that he and Mr Orr had attended the meeting of the County Rates Committee at Derby on the 16ᵗʰ inst. to make objection to the increase of the County Rate Basis as affecting the parish of Great Longstone.
He also stated that the Committee informed them that the Rate Basis had been prepared on the return received from the Clerk to the Guardians at Bakewell on the 31ˢᵗ Decᵣ 1909, and as the reduction in our parish did not take place until the 24ᵗʰ of Janʸ 1910 they decided not to readjust it until March 1911.
Mr Skidmore proposed and Mr Wager seconded that the sum of 7/6 each be allowed to Mr Orr and the Clerk for expenses in attending the County Rates Committee at Derby.
Mr Orr declined to accept anything towards his expenses in connection with the above.
Cutting Trees
The Surveyor replied that he would not enforce the cutting of the trees in the village this season.
Charity Accounts
The Clerk was instructed to inform Mr Andrew that a resolution was passed at the Annual Assembly of the Parish Meeting, requesting the Parish Council to ask him to be good enough to furnish them with the amounts given to each recipient of the various charities, named in his list, forwarded to the Parish meeting.
The Clerk was instructed to make a copy of the list & return it to the Vicar, and to state that they would be glad of an answer as early as possible.
Fire Extinguishing Appliances
Mr Eyre read a copy which he had obtained of the Stony Middleton Fire Brigade regulations but it was decided not to adopt them until further consideration.
It was suggested that a copy be obtained from the Bakewell Brigade.
Mr Wm Nager having accepted the Captainancy it was decided that he be requested to select 6 men to form the Brigade.
Mr Eyre having obtained consent from the Rural District Council to use the Stoke Hat Water, it was arranged that the Brigade meet the Parish Council at the Fire Station on the 31ˢᵗ inst. at 5.30 p.m. to affix the stand pipes on the various hydrants in the village, and to test the appliances previous to arranging for the demonstration.
It was decided to obtain a Hydrant key for the Fire Appliances.
The Clerk was instructed to order from Shand Mason & Co. a plate “Fire Station” as they replied stating they could not supply it gratis.
It was decided to obtain a duplicate key for Fire Station door which is to be placed in a glass fronted box on the door.
Footpaths
Mr Skidmore proposed, and Mr Bridge seconded, that 9 feet in width of the footroad between the White Lion Inn and Mrs Green’s and also Cracken jennel, as far as H. Turner’s garden be gravelled.
The Clerk was instructed to ask Messrs Wagers to send a price at which they would supply 12 loads of gravel to the footroad, and 6 loads to the jennel.
Assistant Overseer
It was proposed by Mr Skidmore and seconded by Mr Wager and carried, that the sum of Five pounds be paid to the Asst Overseer for collecting the Special Sanitary Rate dated 11ᵗʰ of Decʳ 1909.
Holme Meal Charity
A cheque for £9 : 3 : 2 had been paid to Mrs Green for supplying Dole meal.
Cheques for £1 : 4 : 6 and £1 : 8 : 9 were signed payable to I. Shimwell for the following expenses:
