One hundred and seventeenth meeting of the Parish Council
held in the Schoolroom Great Longstone
on the 23ʳᵈ March 1909.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and signed.

Gilder Quarry

It was stated that Mr Eyre and Mr Bridge on behalf of the Parish Council together with Mr Taft the Rural District Council Surveyor had met Mr Wright at Gilder Quarry to stake out the line of the new fence which was done to the satisfaction of both parties.

School-manager

Notice had been received from the Derbyshire Education Committee requesting the Parish Council to nominate a suitable person for appointment as County Council representative of Longstone and District School, to hold office until 31ˢᵗ March 1913.

Mr Skidmore proposed and Mr Bridge seconded that Mr A. W. J. Eyre be nominated.

Mr Eyre is a member of the Local Educational Committee and also a school-manager appointed by the Parish Council but as the latter appointment expires on the 31ˢᵗ March 1910 it was considered that this nomination might be a means of prolonging his services as a representative.

Outrake Land

Mr J. Bridge having applied for the land at the Outrake previously let to Mr J. Lomas, it was decided to let the land not including the garden to Mr Bridge from the 25ᵗʰ March 1909 at a yearly rent of Eight shillings.

Fire-extinguishing appliance

Owing to the recent fire at Stony Middleton the necessity was seen of procuring a fire extinguishing appliance.

It was considered advisable to obtain the necessary funds by voluntary subscriptions apportioned on the rateable value of the various owners of houses &c in the village who would be able to avail themselves of the appliance.

The Clerk was instructed to make a list of the names of owners with their respective rateable values and produce it at the next meeting.

Assistant Overseer

Mr Bridge proposed and Mr Skidmore seconded that the sum of £5 be paid to the Asst. Overseer for collecting the Special Sanitary Rate made on the 14ᵗʰ Novʳ 1908.

Precept on Overseers

A precept was drawn on the Overseers for the sum of £3 to be paid on the 30ᵗʰ inst.

Notice Board

An account for £1 : 17 : 0 had been received from Mr A. W. J. Eyre for supplying and fixing a notice board for the Refuse Tip at the Outrake Quarry as ordered by the Parish Council.

As this account could not be legally charged in the Parish Council expenses, it was decided that it be paid by voluntary contributions based on the rateable value of occupiers.

A cheque for 17/6 was signed, made payable to I. Shimwell for the following expenses:
