The monthly meeting of the Council summoned for this date was attended by Mr. Bates and Mr. Stanton only.
There being no quorum, no business was done.

Thursday, November 28th, 1895

Twelfth Meeting of the Parish Council held in the School Room

Present: Arthur Bates (Chairman), C. H. Buzzard, Charles Johnson, Saml. Johnson, H. A. Stanton, and T. Shimwell (Clerk).

The minutes of the meeting held on the 26th Sept. were read and confirmed.

Charities (81, 85 & 91)

Minute 93

Mr. Stanton laid before the meeting a letter from the Charity Commissioners stating that they were in communication with the Solicitor of Mr. John Thornhill in reference to the funds of the Hornstone Lane Head Trust.

As there was no mention of Wright’s (Educational) Charity, Selborne, Mr. Stanton was asked to give the Commissioners a reminder.

Appointment of Trustees (85)

Minute 94

The Council, at the appointment of two additional Trustees on the Henry Wright’s Charity—

On the motion of Mr. Buzzard, seconded by Mr. Bates, it was resolved that Mr. George Thomas Wright be one such Trustee.

On the motion of Mr. Bates, seconded by Mr. Saml. Johnson, it was resolved that the Rev. Giles Andrews be the other such Trustee.

(Mr. Stanton and Mr. Chas. Johnson remained neutral on these two votes.)

Village Green (84, 87 & 92)

Minute 95

The Clerk reported that he had, as instructed, communicated with Mr. Ainsworth, Solicitor, of Buxton, and laid on the table two letters received from him. The same having been read and considered, it was resolved unanimously, on the motion of Mr. Bates, seconded by Mr. Stanton, that no legal proceedings be taken in this matter.

Repair of Footpaths

Minute 96

Mr. Stanton moved the following resolution, viz.:—

“That in pursuance of the resolution passed at the Parish meeting held on the 28th March last, relating to the repair of the footpaths which the Parish Council is authorised by Sec. 13 (1) of the Local Government Act of 1894 to undertake, this Council hereby instructs the Clerk to take the necessary steps for repairing the footpath leading across the fields from the Station Road (Mill Lane) towards the Railway Station, and also that leading from Mill Lane to the Cricket Field, obtaining first the consent thereto of the owners and occupiers of the property.”

After some discussion, it was agreed to deal first with the footpath leading from Mill Lane to the Cricket Field, and the resolution, as drafted by Mr. Stanton, Mr. Buzzard, Mr. Bates, and supported by Mr. Chas. and Mr. Saml. Johnson, was passed with that limitation.

Next Meeting

In view of the Christmas holidays, it was decided to fix the next meeting for Thursday, January 2nd, 1896.
