Longstone Area Sports & Recreation Association

Information about Longstones Area Sports & Recreation Association

The Longstone Area Sports & Recreation Association (LASRA) has been set up to support anyone and everyone in the local area that wants to use the recreation ground and buildings for sport or recreation. The association was born out of the Cricket Club needing to hand over responsibility for looking after the pavilion and grounds. The whole premise of LASRA is to provide the facilities that enable sport and recreation on the recreation ground, it is an umbrella association for sports clubs to operate under.

LASRA is a registered charity with a committee of trustees and welcomes people to join as members. Members might help out with maintenance, sports coaching or as, we have had to date, solicitors to ensure our documentation is above board. Very importantly being a member is wanting the association to succeed and making sure the trustees are doing thing right, please join up. Please enquire at lasra@greatlongstone.net

Sport: Football is played regularly, there has been a big uptake of Pickleball, with all ages playing, we have an enthusiastic Netball group and we have pulled together a cricket team. In 2025 there are plans to start All Stars and Dynamo Cricket coaching to get young people enthused.

Around 300 people came to the Open Day which was a great turnout contributing to a marvellous event. The turnout demonstrates the interest we have in the area to get the most out of the fabulous space we have. It also helped us to understand where we need to invest in improving the facilities. As such funds are being raised to resurface the multi use court to make it playable and safe for use, renewing a section of the cricket square to bring three wickets up to playable use, and the rest to a good standard for bowls and croquet.

As mentioned the Longstone Area Sports & Recreation Association is now a registered charity (1209659) and open to donations and fund raising ideas.

The trustees are:

  • Mike Meurer – Chair
  • Amanda Whittlestone – Vice Chair
  • Deb Nash – Secretary
  • Roger Topham – Treasurer
  • Phil Barrett – Safeguarding Officer
  • Andy Douglass – Buildings and Maintenance
  • Dave Richards – Grounds
  • Wendy Long
