Council Meeting – 22nd February 1900
The Sixty Fourth Meeting of the Parish Council held in the School Room, Great Longstone
on Thursday February 22nd 1900.
Present:
Mr W. R. Pitt Dixon, Chairman of the Meeting
Messrs Coe, Spanton, Ward & Shimwell (Clerk).
Rev J. Andrews having sent word that he was suddenly called away Mr Dixon was unanimously elected Chairman.
The Minutes of the last meeting were then read and confirmed.
The Clerk stated that he had been to the Gilder Quarry to make arrangements for fencing it out but found that Mr Wright had arranged to fence his own land so he thought it better to wait & see what Mr Wright would do.
No action had been taken with regard to the Station Footpath.
Telegraph Office
The Clerk laid before the meeting a letter which he had received from the Postmaster General stating that in accordance with the request from this Council he was willing to establish a Telegraph Office at Longstone if the Council would guarantee one half of the deficiency not exceeding £24 the cost of the office when established, such guarantee not to exceed £12.
It was unanimously decided to give the guarantee required.
The Clerk also stated that he had received a letter from the District Council stating that complaint had been made to them that Mr Eyre Builder had diverted a Public Footpath by erecting houses on the same and asking for the observations of the Council thereon.
On the motion of Mr Coe seconded by Mr Ward it was unanimously resolved that the Clerk reply that the Council do not consider there has been much obstruction as the path is only diverted some 6 yards by Mr Eyre on the owner of the land will give a guarantee that the path shall not be interfered with in the future there will be no need for action.
Parish Contribution
It was decided to issue an order on the Overseers directing them to pay to the Treasurer of the Council the sum of Three pounds on the 24th March as a contribution from the parish to the funds of the Council.
Dole Meal Account
A cheque for £8 11s 0d was drawn in favour of Mrs T. Lowe to pay for the Dole Meal distributed.
