Minutes of the Meeting of Great Longstone Parish Council

96/26   Apologies for absence from members.  None

97/26   To approve minutes of the meeting held on 13th May 2026. Approved

98/26   Public Comments. No members of the public were in attendance.

99/26   Discussion of Confidential Matters: (Public Bodies (Admission to Meetings) Act 1960 S1(2)) – Council decided that no items in this meeting needed to be discussed with the public excluded.

100/26 Planning Applications

  1. Recent – Decided/Withdrawn:
  2. New, for consideration in meeting
    • NP/DDD/0526/0510 at The Old School, Main Street, (F1 – Local Community and Learning to E(f) Creche, day nursery or day centre).The Council noted the strong support from the community at the recent Annual Parish Meeting and the manner in which this application has addressed the concerns raised in 2025 by the planning inspector, in response to application NP/DDD/0524/0534 appeal.

The Clerk was instructed to write a letter of support, to PDNPA, for this application.

101/26 Footpath Maintenance: Proposal that the Parish Council participates in the DCC Rights of Way Minor Maintenance Scheme for 2026/27. APPROVED

102/26 Full Fibre Broadband: Following item under 93/26 (Late correspondence) the Clerk reported that has had been in contact with BT Openreach. He was advised that they have been contracted to prepare the parish for full fibre broadband, with a completion date of 31st March 2027. It is understood that fibre will be run the closet node (telegraph pole or underground chamber) to each property. The final connection across the property boundary, from the node the individual buildings, will be done when individuals order an upgrade from their current copper-wire service.

The report was reviewed and accepted by the Council. There were no action points.

103/26 Charity Payment: The Trustees of the Holme Meal Trust requested that a payment of £130 be made to the Village Hall Management Committee, from the charity’s funds held on their behalf by the Parish Council. The payment is to cover the cost of the new Toddler group’s room hire fees for its first 10 weeks.

This was approved by the Council and the Clerk was instructed to prepare the payment for authorisation.

104/26 Late Items of Correspondence

  • Report that there are mole hills on West Green – Clerk instructed to as Cox Pest Control to action this.
  • DDDC about Local Plan and housing in area not covered by the National Park. Noted
  • Ultra Challenge – Sponsored walks over w/e 4/5 July 2026. Noted
  • Request to have the footpaths in “The Willows” strimmed. Clerk instructed to pass on the request to PDNPA.

105/26 Items from Councillors for information/inclusion in future meetings:

The clerk was instructed to review the recent RoSPA report on the state of the Playground equipment, in time for the next meeting of the Council. Particular concern was expressed about the state of “Nellie”.

The clerk was instructed to investigate options for managing the weekly checks of the playground equipment, using online “apps”, and to report back to the next meeting of the Council.

Cllr Douglass reported that the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Committee are planning to have information displays at events during the Longstone Week celebrations scheduled for July 2026.
