Annual Parish Meeting – 14th March 1910

Minutes of the sixteenth Annual Assembly of the Parish Meeting
held in the School-room, Great Longstone on the 14th of March 1910

Present:
Mr S. Johnson (Chairman)
Messrs J. Bridge, A. W. J. Eyre, W. J. Eyre, Joseph Johnson, A. J. Skidmore, J. Wager, W Orr, I Shimwell (Clerk) and Mr Wood, High Peak News reporter.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and signed.

Election of Parish Councillors

The first business to be transacted at the meeting was the Election of Parish Councillors.

On the invitation of the Chairman nomination papers were handed in nominating the following persons, viz.-

  • Mr J. Bridge
  • Mr A. W. J. Eyre
  • Mr Orr
  • Mr A. J. Skidmore
  • Mr Jasper Wager

After waiting the required time of 15 minutes, and no more nominations being handed in, the Chairman declared the above persons duly elected as Parish Councillors for the ensuing 3 years ending 31st March 1913.

Mr A. W. J. Eyre then gave a short address and thanked the meeting for returning them; he said they had worked very amicably together, and pointed out a few of the improvements that had been effected during the past 3 years, viz.—

  • The provision of a Public Tip
  • The erection of a Notice Board, the cost of which was being defrayed voluntarily.
  • Improvements to the Footpath at Holme Bank and Longstone Hole Bridge.
  • A settlement with Mr Wright as to the ownership and repair of fences at Gilder Quarry.
  • Providing by voluntary donations a set of fire extinguishing appliances and hose cart at a cost of over £50.
  • Also had been instrumental in getting the County Council to give a course of lectures on Veterinary Work which had been well patronized, having an average attendance of about 28.

Charities

The Rev. G. Andrew sent an account of the various charities with which he is connected, and also a list of the recipients, but as there was no statement of the amounts received by each person it was proposed by Mr S. Johnson, seconded by Mr A. W. J. Eyre, and carried unanimously, that a recommendation be made to the Parish Council requesting them to ask Mr Andrew to give a more detailed account.

The following is a list of the recipients of Rowland Eyre’s Charity as distributed by the Overseers, viz.-

Holme Meal Charity

It was stated that the sum of £9–3–0 had been expended in purchasing 157 pecks of oatmeal and distributed amongst the poor of Great Longstone.
