One hundred and twelfth meeting of the Parish Council
held in the School-room Great Longstone
on the 19ᵗʰ of May 1908

The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed
Capt. Henry Wright’s Charity
A copy of the Scheme re Capt. Hy. Wright’s Charity had been received from the Charity Commissioners (for which a charge of sixpence was made) together with a letter, stating that the last account received by them, was in Decᵣ 1905, and that the Trustees were then Rev. G. Andrew, Messrs G. J. Wright, A. W. J. Eyre, W. R. P. Dixon and H. A. Frampton.
Mr Orr gave notice that at the next meeting he should propose that a resolution be passed rescinding the appointment made on the 12ᵗʰ of March 1907, of Messrs W. R. P. Dixon and H. A. Frampton, as Trustees of the Wrights Charity.
Holme Meal Charity
The Clerk stated that he had written to the Churchwardens of Bakewell respecting the proposed redemption of the Holme Meal Charity, and had received a reply stating that they are willing for the redemption to be made.
The Chairman read a copy of the Charity which had been obtained from a board in the Church, and after considering the matter, it was proposed by Mr Orr, seconded by Mr Bridge, and carried unanimously, that the Clerk reply to the Duke of Devonshire’s agent, saying, that the Parish Council as representing the Parish, and having in view the probable increase in the price of Oatmeal, do not feel justified in consenting to the proposal, unless he can see his way to invest such a sum in Consols* that would produce considerably more than the average payment made during the last seven years, thereby protecting the Parish from any loss in the future, occasioned by the transfer.
Signed
A. W. J. Eyre
Chairman
- Editor’s note – “Consols” probably referred to “Consolidated Government Stock” which were the main government bond used by charities and trusts a this time.
