Village Plan – 10th February 2025

Following on from the successful meeting in November, to provide feedback on the PDNPA Local Plan Consultation, we are now ready to start working on our own Longstone Area Village(s) Plan

The launch meeting for the Village/Neighbourhood plan will take place in Longstone Village Hall at 7.30pm on Monday 10th February.

The first steps will be to decide on whether we are going to create a Neighbourhood Plan or a Village Plan (don’t worry, we’ll explain the difference!). We then have to finalise the area that it will cover. So far Great Longstone and Little Longstone have confirmed participation. We very much hope that Rowland and Hassop will be involved as well.

Another important starting point is going to be deciding on the work streams that will makeup the project. Possible ideas could include:

  • Affordable housing
  • Public transport, parking and pavements
  • Conservation and the environment (including renewables)
  • Business and Tourism
  • Recreation
  • Farming
  • Identifying the needs of older members of the community
  • Identifying the needs of young families
  • Creating Community – Supporting regular events, clubs and activities

What else? Do these need rewording, removing or adding to?

Each work-stream will need people who have an interest in the topic. What interests you?

Our villages will change over the coming years. There is nothing that we can do about that. However, as a community, we can either just let events carry us along – or we can look at how we want to influence the future of our villages and what they will be like a places to live in 5, 10 or 20 years from now.

All residents of Great Longstone, Little Longstone, Rowland and Hassop are welcome.

Please do “spread the word” and come along on 10th February to help to get the conversation started.
