GREAT LONGSTONE PARISH COUNCIL
MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE
8th DAY OF September 1999

Present; Councillors Hirst, Cox, Askew, Finney,

67.99 Apologies for absence

Apologies were received from District Councillor Crowther and Councillor Casey. Councillor’s Fawcett and Bowering were on Holiday.

68.99 Minutes of the last meeting held on the 21st July 1999

The Minutes of the last meeting were approved

69.99 Matters arising from the minutes

There were no matters arising from the minutes

70.99 Backdale Quarry update

The situation remains largely the same RMC have until 14.01.2000 to complete their Environmental impact assessment but as they no longer have a legal interest in the quarry there remains doubt as to whether they will take any further part in the process.

71.99 Planning matters

To Consider:

  1. Application to erect a Conservatory, Endden, The Close, Great Longstone.
  2. Application to erect a Conservatory, 1 Glebe Court, Glebe Avenue, Great Longstone
  3. Listed Building Consent Application to insert 2 rooflights at the Farm Main Street Great Longstone

The Council resolved to approve item 1 but in respect of items 2 & 3 to object in whole or in part. The details of the objections have been sent to the relevant authorities.

To Note Approvals:

  1. Application to extend dwelling Honeysuckle Cottage, Main Street, Great Longstone
  2. Retention of Pump House, Blakedon Hollow

The Council noted the Approvals

72.99 Financial matters

The Clerk reported that the accounts have been delayed due to the problems connected with the VAT and the Grants in respect of the Village Hall

The Council approved the following payments.

  1. D Askew £120
  2. Clerks Salary £403
  3. Administration Expenses £ to be carried forward
  4. TW Cox £135
  5. DDDC £488.37
  6. The Print Room £21.62

The Council noted the balance on the Current Account of £1,000 and on the Deposit Account of £7,678.28

73.99 Village Hall

Councillor Askew reported on the Successful Art Show and the various donations made from the profits

74.99 Playground Equipment

No reports

75.99 Village Cross

The Council noted the work is continuing and hopes that the work will soon be completed

76.99 Millennium Celebrations

No reports

77.99 Allotment Land

No further progress has been made save that grants may be available for a Millennium Garden if the Council obtains the Land

78.99 New Noticeboard

The Council resolved to have a new Noticeboard erected with surrounding paving set back from its present position

79.99 Maintenance inc Trees on the Recreation Ground

The Council resolved to ask Thomas Cox to carry out tree pruning work on a Lime Tree. Councillor Cox declared an interest and took no part in the discussion or vote

The Council resolved to place signs on the Recreation ground to restrict dog owners taking their dogs on the recreation ground except when on a lead.

80.99 Turners

The Clerk read the response from DCC.

81.99 Parking Outside the Post Office

The Council felt that little could be achieved save a further appeal to parents at school times to park further away from the school and to keep the road by the school and Post Office clear for reasons of children’s safety

82.99 Feemouth Yard

The Clerk explained the ongoing difficulties and the Diocese requirements. The Clerk is liaising with the Architects for the Diocese to ensure the requirements are met by the quotations obtained.

83.99 Verges

The Clerk read a letter from the District Council which attributed the poor mowing to a combination of bad weather and manpower shortages. Councillor Finney felt the letter was inaccurate and that further steps should be taken to have the verges kept in good order. The Clerk reminded the Council that the matter had been considered last year and that at that time the Council felt that the further expenditure was unjustified. The Council therefore resolved again to take no further action.

  1. DDDC Area Community Forums: The Council noted the next meeting is on the 15th November in Bakewell
  2. Older Peoples Advocacy Project: Noted
  3. DALC Elections to Executive Committee: Noted
  4. DDDC re Local Government Commission Electoral Review: Noted
  5. PDNPA re Parish Councils Day Sat 16/10/99: Noted – Councillors Askew and Casey to attend
  6. PDNPA re Local Plan Modification Edition August 1999: To be read by all Councillors

85.99 Date and time of next meeting

The Council resolved to meet next on the 13th October 1999 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall
