Council Meeting – 29th July 1998

GREAT LONGSTONE PARISH COUNCIL
MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE
29th DAY OF July 1998

Present ; Councillors, Askew, Casey, Fawcett, Gregory, Woollen.

District Councillor Crowther

45.98 As neither the Chairman nor the Vice-Chairman were present a Chairman for the meeting was elected. Councillor Gregory was proposed as Chairman for the meeting by Councillor Casey and seconded by Councillor Askew. Accordingly Councillor Gregory acted as Chairman for the meeting.

46.98 Apologies

Apologies were received from Councillor Hirst and Councillor Cox.

47.98 Minutes of the meeting on the 24th of June 1998

Councillor Casey reported on his attendance at the meeting regarding C C T V in Bakewell and its possible application in the Village.

Councillor Gregory gave further information regarding item No. 42.98. The contribution for the seat for the Feemouth Yard is made by Mr J Long on behalf of G Salisbury deceased. Mr Long is currently selecting the seat.

48.98 Backdale Quarry update

The Council noted that the application for judicial review will be heard on the 25th August 1998 in the High Court in London. A delegation of members from the action group is to attend court.

49.98 Planning Matters

The Council noted the approval of the erection of a conservatory and garden shed at 15 The Meadows, Great Longstone.

The Council also received an application in respect of Orrs Farm Main Street Great Longstone for the erection of Stabling to replace the existing agricultural building. The Council unanimously resolved to raise no objections and commented that the proposal would result in an improved visual amenity for the adjacent properties.

50.98 Financial Matters

The Council noted the balance on the current account of £500

And on the deposit account £14,750.82

The Council approved the following payments;

  1. D Askew Village Hall Cleaning £100
  2. Village Hall Insurance £356.80
  3. Peak Park Parishes’ Forum Subscription £30

51.98 Village Hall

The Village Hall management committee had suggested that the window at the end of the building be opened up. The Council unanimously resolved to open the window. It was agreed that the funding for this would come from Village Hall management committee.

Discussion took place about whether the new windows should be stained brown with the mahogany colour remaining or whether they should be stained white to match the other windows and other properties adjacent.

The Council resolved to leave the issue to the management committee of the Village Hall.

52.98 Verge Mowing

The clerk reported that he had been unable to ascertain precisely the District Council’s position regarding the verge mowing and would continue to obtain details as to whether the verges could be mowed more regularly at extra cost.

Councillor Gregory reported that trees on the Green needed attention. Advice is to be obtained from the tree specialist Mr Goodwin at the Peak Park Authority.

The Council heard of a complaint from a member of the public regarding dog fouling. The Council resolved to contact the Derbyshire Dales District Council to obtain more signs and to obtain assistance with further information for public education. The Council resolved to write to the member of the public.

53.98 Parish Magazine

No further information has been received the issue will be considered again at the next meeting.

54.98 Correspondence

  1. Listed Buildings News – Noted
  2. Patrick McLoughlin MP Re school Standards and Framework Bill – Noted
  3. DCC Re Rights of Way Minor Maintenance Agreement – In respect of the rights of way minor maintenance agreement it was resolved to contact the Footpaths Officer to obtain a definitive map of the footpaths in the area. It was further resolved to seek further sums from the Derbyshire County Council with a view to more active work being carried out under this agreement. The Clerk is to contact Mr Watson and Mr Cox when the map has been obtained.
  4. Peak Parishes Forum – The Parish Council’s representative on the National Park Authority is to be invited to speak at the next meeting.
  5. DALC recent circular

55.98 Date and Time of next meeting

The meeting will be held on the 3rd of September 1998 at 7.30 pm in the Village Hall.
