GREAT LONGSTONE PARISH COUNCIL
MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE
21st DAY OF October 1998
Present: Councillors Askew, Cox, Gregory, Casey, Finney, Hirst (Chairman), Woollen.
72.98 Apologies
Apologies were received from Councillor Fawcett and District Councillor Crowther.
73.98 Minutes of the Meeting on the 3rd September 1998
The minutes were approved with no amendments.
74.98 Matters arising from the minutes
There were no matters arising from the minutes.
75.98 Backdale Quarry Update
The position remains unchanged since the last Council meeting. There will be a Public Meeting of the Action Group on the 19th November in Calver Village Hall at 7.30 pm.
76.98 Planning Matters
- Plot 1 Church Lane Great Longstone
- New Classroom at Gt Longstone School
The Council had no objection to either application.

77.98 Financial Matters
The Council noted Balances on the Current Account of £500 and on the Deposit Account of £7,497.80.
The Council approved the Amended Accounts for the year to 31st March 1998.
The Council approved the following payments;
- D Askew £100
- M Briggs £15
78.98 Village Hall
Work is shortly to begin on the lowering of the ceiling the Council resolved to pay the contractor and seek reimbursement from the Village Hall Management Committee.
79.98 Dog Fouling
The Council have received a response from an Officer of the Derbyshire Dales District Council to a request for assistance with the ongoing problem. The Council resolved to invite the Officer to the February meeting of the Council to discuss the implementation of new Legislation.
80.98 Parish Paths Partnership
A presentation was made to the Council by Ms Sinton an Officer of the Derbyshire County Council who explained the scheme in detail which attracts 100% grant aid. After Questions from Councillors and a discussion with Mr Bacon an Officer of the PDNPA who accompanied Ms Sinton the Council resolved to survey the paths in the Parish with a view to joining the Partnership in the next financial year. It was noted that the agreements generally run for three years.

No further developments were reported.
82.98 Youth Club
No further developments were reported.
83.98 Well Dressing
No further developments were reported.
84.98 Footpath Grisedale Road West
The Council resolved to write to Derbyshire County Council to complain as to the poor state of the resurfacing works. Councillors stated that they had already made complaints but little adequate response was forthcoming.
85.98 Tree Pruning
The Council heard a report of the site meeting which had recently taken place. The Council resolved to implement the recommendations of Mr Goodwin (PDNPA) namely to thin the crown of the Lime tree on the Village Green and to prune and cut back two Cherry trees on the Green and one Thorn tree on the Recreation Ground.
A 20% grant is likely from Peak Park. The Council also resolved to have the bushes in the Feemouth Yard cut back and M Watson is to be requested to carry out this task.
86.98 Precept Initial Consideration for year 1999/2000
The Council began discussions as to the precept for the following year the precept is to be set at the next meeting.

- DRCC AGM 21st October 1998 – Noted.
- DDDC Local Agenda 21 – Noted.
- Re Parking on Main Street – This letter is to be circulated for discussion and will form a main item on the Agenda for the next meeting.
- DCC Environmental Services Report 1998 – Noted.
- Bakewell Project issue 9 – Noted.
- Unison Re Ambulance Services to Rural Communities – The Council resolved to write supporting the provision of Ambulance services in Rural areas
- Patrick McLoughlin M.P. Re Audit Commission Fees – Noted.
- Victim Support Request for funding – The Grant that the Council resolved to make will now be paid.
- PDNPA Annual Report 1998 – Noted and circulated between Councillors
- PDNPA Re Caravan Rallies 1999 – Noted.
88.98 Date and time of the next meeting.
The next meeting will take place on the 18th November 1998 at 7.30 pm in the Village Hall.
