Present: Councillors; Hirst, Cox, Askew, Finney.
41/01 Apologies for Absence
Apologies received from Councillors Fawcett, Casey and Bowering, also from District Councillor Crowther.
42/01 Minutes of the last meeting held on the 20th June 2001
The Council resolved to approve the minutes.
43/01 Matters arising from the minutes
There were no matters arising.
44/01 Planning matters
To consider:
- Application for an extension to dwelling and relocation of Conservatory. The Gables, Main Street, Great Longstone.
The Parish Council supports the application.
To approve:
- Conversion of part of outbuilding to ancillary living accommodation. Filedhead House, Moor Road, Great Longstone.
The Parish Council noted the approvals.
45/01 Financial Matters
To note bank balances
The balance on the Current bank account was noted as £1000
The balance on the Deposit account £9499.39 13.
To approve payments:
- Cornhill Insurance – Village Hall £374.36
- Michael Watson – mow village greens, churchyard and cuttingback/weedkilling £1335/01
- Bakewell and Eyam Community Transport – donation £150/01
- Great Longstone Post Office – charity donation x 3 vouchers for Xmas 2000 £30/01
- D Askew – village hall cleaning £80/01
- Derbyshire Rural Community Council – donation £50/01
- Crossroads Care scheme – donation £150/01
- DD Victims Support Scheme – donation £50/01
- Under the Edge – donation £250/01
The council resolved to approve the payments.
46/01 Backdale Quarry/Longstone Edge updates
The Clerk reported on feedback from Councillor Crowther following a meeting at Ashford. An extremely active meeting was held at Ashord stating that they were against further lorries coming through the village.
Councillor Finney reported on his concerns regarding Longstone Edge following a conversation with Jonathan Moore a Mineral expert from Peak Park. There are concerns that the fight over Longstone Moor, could bankrupt Peak Park.The mine is not keeping to the specifications.
The Council resolved to instruct the Clerk to write to Peak Park expressing their concerns over the Quarry not keeping to specifications i.e., tipping and roads used.
47/01 Allotment land/ Landscaping
Allotment: The Clerk reported that there are still vacant allotment plots, and was instructed to ask M. Watson to weedkill these plots, as they are very overgrown.
Grant update: The Clerk reported that The Countryside Agency would not provide a grant, as we are not a deprived enough area, we have a lot of ‘green’ areas already. The Peak Park are not offering grants at the moment due to foot and mouth, they will also require clarification on a number of points i.e. seating and paving.
There is no news form CPRE or Derbyshire Rural Community Council, this should arrive between August and November.
48/01 Dog Fouling, and signs
The Council resolved for the Clerk to order 2400 dog bags at a cost of £50/01 in total. The Clerk stated that there are dog bag dispensing machines available, the Council asked the Clerk to look into the cost as an idea.
The Clerk has ordered signs for the recreation area at a cost of £90/01 in total.
49/01 Derbyshire Village of the Year 2001 Competition
The Clerk reported that there is no news on the competition. The final stages of judging are during July and August.
50/01 Lady Manners intake
The Chairman read out the letter the Parish Council sent to Lady Manners School, regarding Sarah Batty the daughter of the new cowman, living on Longreave Lane. The parents are appealing to the school to enable Sarah to be able to go to the school in September. The School says the numbers are full for the New Year. The appeal takes place on Friday 20th July 2001. Letters were also sent from Councillor Crowther, the Vicar and many more.
51/01 Maintenance
RECREATION AREA:
- D Longden- The Clerk was asked at the previous meeting to ask for a break down of costs from D . Longden, from his invoice. The Councillors discussed the breakdown of costs.
- Quotes for fencing on recreation area – Two quotes were received for the fencing. The Councillors agreed to use Lydgate Hill Fencing, Holmesfield.
- Football pitch – The Councillors had checked out the affected area at the goalmouth. It was agreed to appoint the Clerk to gain three quotes for filling in and turfing the problem area. Turf would be used from another area of the recreation area, then that reseeded.
- Roller-skating, netball hoop – The Councillors discussed the concerns over safety, regarding roller-skating. The Councillors would look at possible places to situate a netball hoop. The Council instructed the Clerk to gather costs of netball hoops.
- Climbing frame grant- The Clerk reported that a grant had been sought, there was no news. The Council instructed the Clerk to gather information on different climbing frames.
- Bark for play area – Bark has been ordered for the play area.
- Safety inspection – The Clerk stated that the Playground had not been formally inspected since December 98. The Council instructed the Clerk to enquire into the costs of a Council inspection.
ROADS AND PATHS
- Sign cleaning – The Clerk reported that Great Longstone is on the list for signs to be cleaned.
- Roads and paths – The Clerk reported on the stage the County Council is at with the following. The path adjacent to recreation area will be filled in and made safe. They will look to resurface in future. The holes around the drain outside no 9 Edge View Drive will have a new drain cover and tarmac around. And the overflowing drain on Station Road has been pumped out. County are looking at the problem again.
- Tress/hedges overhanging – The Councillors discussed hedges and trees overhanging into the road around the Thornbridge end of Station Road. The Clerk was instructed to write to Mr Harrison regarding trees overhanging on to the road. And to write to Mr Shimwell as his hedge is sticking out into the road. Councillor Cox would cut his hedge back on the opposite side.
The Council discussed the high hedge in between the two sections of the Meadows, through the walkway. This is very overgrown. The Council instructed the Clerk to contact the Council regarding this. - Strimming work – Councillor Cox stated that the agreed strimming work was progressing.
52/01 Village Hall
The issue of whom pays for what was discussed. The Councillors agreed that the Clerk should draw up a more comprehensive list of what is paid when, for the Parish Council. The Councillors discussed problems with drainpipes adjoining the adjacent barn which is being converted. Councillor Cox agreed to speak with the builders to find out more information.
53/01 Sports Day – Councillor reported on the planned Sports Day which would go ahead, after the school holidays. The Parish Council, as agreed in the precept, would give £150/01 for this.
54/01 Bottle Recycling collection – The Clerk reported on further concerns with residents living to the left of the White Lion, leaving cars sticking out. The Council is finding it difficult to empty the bottle dustbins. The Councillors agreed for the Clerk to Contact to Council and suggest they contact the new landlords of the White Lion, in relation to using the right hand side of the pub.

- DALC, AGM September 29th 2001 am and a recommended salary increase- Councillors noted the agm and approved the clerks salary increase of £14/01 per quarter.

- Wickstead, play equipment – the Councillors looked at the information in relation to costs for netball hoops and climbing frames.

The council resolved to meet on Wednesday 19th September at 7.30. p.m. In the Village hall.
