MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE
17th DAY OF February 1999

140.98 Apologies
Apologies were received from Councillor Gregory
141.98 Minutes of the last meeting held on the 27th January 1999
The Council resolved to amend the minutes to show at 125.98 that Councillor Cox declared an interest in items 1 and 5 and left the meeting whilst discussion took place in his absence. Councillor Gregory was appointed Chairman in Councillor Cox’s absence.
Also to show the proposed Change of use at item 3 to show Change of use of Land at Sherwood House…. etc

143.98 Backdale Quarry update
No information received
144.98 Planning matters
In respect of Item 1 Councillor Finney declared an interest and took no part in the discussion
To Consider:
- Application for the Erection of Conservatory, Enden, The Close, Great Longstone
The Council resolved to raise no objections
To Note Approval:
- Renewal of Consent for Bird Watching Hide, Blakedon Hollow
The Council noted the approval
145.98 Financial matters
To Note bank balances £500 current account £7387.36 Deposit
The Council also noted that its Banker were to increase the Current a/c balance to £1000 in due course.
To approve payments:
- D Askew £90
The Council approved the payment
146.98 Village Hall
Damp proofing work has been completed. The Hall will be redecorated later in the Year. Councillor Fawcett raised the question, should the Council continue to fund the cleaning of the Hall given the surplus in the Village Hall funds and that it was now charging a realistic rental fee. Councillor Askew is to provide a copy of Management agreement for consideration at the next Council meeting.
147.98 Christmas Tree Electricity Supply Electricians Report
The Council did not receive a written report. The Council resolved to cover the above ground electric supply point with a seat. Councillor Hirst to contact the Vicar as seat has been offered for donation.
148.98 Parish Paths Partnership – Paths to be surveyed
Councillor Cox to liase with the Clerk regarding the survey of paths in the Parish.
149.98 Parish Magazine
The Draft Constitution of Under the Edge was presented.
The Council resolved to consider the typed document in due course.
150.98 Allotment Land – Gift of Land by D West as Trustee
The Clerk reported he was waiting to hear from the solicitors instructed by Mr West.
151.98 Playground – To consider the Inspection by Councillors
Councillor Fawcett reported on the inspection by Councillors. The gaps in the Slide can be filled and new handrails can be constructed locally. Additional Bark for the safety surfaces is to be delivered on Saturday 27th February. The Council resolve to write to Derbyshire Dales District Council to seek grant aid for the funding of the Playground improvements.
152.98 Millennium Project Local History Group
The Council resolved to hold a competition to coincide with the Art Show for the design of the presentation Mugs. The decision on the number of mugs to be purchased was deferred.
153.98 Former Sewage Works Mr McDonald Community Forester at Peak District National Park Authority
The Council received a report that Landfill Tax funding is to be sought to carry out improvements to the woodland. The proposed improvements were discussed and the Council resolved to write a letter of support for the proposals.
154.98 Village Cross and War Memorial – to consider estimates
Further estimates are awaited.
155.98 Great Longstone School; Councillor Fawcett to Report
No change, the Building work is continuing
156.98 Feemouth Yard; Path and Shrubs
Councillors are to carry out a site inspection on the 20th February. The Clerk was requested to ascertain how repair work could be funded.
157.98 Verges
Councillors expressed concern about the state of many of the grass verges in the Village. The disrepair is thought to be due partly to the recent EMEB work and also local people carrying out Building work and failing to ensure that the verges are reinstated to their former condition on completion of the work.
The Council resolved to write to EMEB to request a site meeting to discuss the problem which has not been resolved by telephone calls and to write to the individuals concerned asking that the verges be made good.

The Council resolved that it would meet next on the 24th March at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
