MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE
16th DAY OF December 1998

There were no matters arising from the minutes
109.98 Backdale Quarry update
The situation remains unclear. The landowner has indicated his intention to pursue the application for judicial review.
No agreement has yet been reached between the Peak Park and R M C regarding the reinstatement of the quarry. A contributors meeting recently took place which was attended by officers of the Peak Park. The action group intend to maintain pressure on both parties to reach an agreement on the reinstatement conditions.
110.98 Planning matters
To Consider:
- Application to extend garden land, Dalana House, Barn Furlong, Beggarway Lane, Gt Longstone
- Application to Erect Conservatory, 9 The Meadows, Gt Longstone
The Council had no objection to either application. The Council resolved to write to the Peak Park regarding the encroachment of garden land on to the industrial estate. The Council were concerned that it would be unfair on the users of the Industrial Estate if the garden owners having extended their gardens subsequently complaint about nuisance from the Industrial Estate.
The Council felt that the original landscaping scheme was intended to provide a buffer between the residential developments and the industrial use. The extension of the garden land would remove this buffer zone.

The Council approved the above payments
112.98 Village Hall
The new Window has been installed. Only minor works remain outstanding. The Council were pleased to note that the difficulties regarding VAT have now been overcome.
113.98 Christmas Tree
The Council heard that Councillors Hirst and Fawcett had been involved in the arrangements regarding the Christmas tree with assistance from Mr Slater and Thomas Cox. The Council resolved to write to Mr Slater to thank him for his help. Councillor Cox reported that the electricity supply had been inspected by Peter Charles who has reported on its safety. A temporary solution is in place and the Council resolved to discuss a permanent solution at its next meeting. The Council further resolved to write a letter of thanks to Miss S Hurst for providing the tree.
114.98 Parish Paths Partnership
Councillor Finney provided a map, further maps are to be obtained and the Council resolved to discuss the footpath issues again at its next meeting.
115.98 Parish Magazine
Councillor Cox reported to the meeting regarding the new publication “Under The Edge” the first issue was prepared and distributed in record time. The Council expressed its hope that the Church news could be incorporated in the new publication and at the village would give further support to those who had been involved in the initial publication. A further meeting is to take place on the 7th January 1999 at the White Lion at 7.30 pm.
116.98 Allotment Land
Gift of Land by D West as Trustee
The Council resolved in principle to accept the kind offer of land from Mr West. However the Council has little information regarding the current tenancies on the allotment land and resolved to seek further information from Mr West and also from the Association of Local Council’s regarding the administration of allotments and legal obligations which might arise.
117.98 Tree Pruning
The Council resolved to accept the Quotation of Derwent Treescapes for the proposed works and further to seek grant aid from the Peak Park towards the costs.
118.98 Millennium Project Local History Group
The Council heard from Mrs Clarke from the Longstone History Group. The group intends to run an exhibition in the Village Hall during the millennium year. Councillor Fawcett continues to make inquiries regarding the provision of commemorative Mugs and other ways of marking the millennium. The Council resolved that no parish celebration would be organised for the New Year’s Eve but the Council would actively investigate and liaise with other interested bodies regarding other events during the millennium year to mark the years significance.

120.98 Date and Time of Next Meeting
The Council resolved that the next meeting will take place on Wednesday 27th January 1999 at 7.30pm in the Village Hall.
