MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE
15th DAY OF APRIL 1998 at 8pm

1.98 Apologies

Apologies were received from Councillors Gregory and Casey

2.98 Minutes of the Meeting on the 18th March 1998

The minutes were accepted and signed

3.98 Matters arising from the Minutes

There were no matters arising.

4.98 Backdale Quarry update

The Council heard a report from Councillor Crowther that work continues in the quarry and that the action group had no response to a request to the company for an early meeting. However the National Park Authority has stated that they are seeking a commitment from the company for an orderly and early withdrawal from the site after operations cease. A copy of the determination under the Environment Act has been obtained and full details are available for consideration

5.98 Planning Matters

Approval of building works at Sunnyside The Close Great Longstone were noted

6.98 Financial Matters

The Council noted the balance on the current account £500

And on the deposit account £4,225.70

The Council approved the following payments;

  1. D Askew Village Hall Cleaning £60
  2. PDNPA Planning Application Fee Church Yard Footpath £47.50
  3. DRCC £9.50
  4. DALC Audit Training Fee £5
  5. DALC/NALC Annual Subscription Fees £108.53

7.98 Village Hall

The Council noted that the grant from Derbyshire Dales District Council towards improvement works at the Village Hall had been increased. The Council thanked the District Councillor Mrs Crowther for her assistance. The likely cost to the Parish Council for the improvement works is to be reduced.

The Council heard that the next phase of improvement works will be the re- pointing of the Village Hall prior to the transfer of the property to the Parish Council. As noted in the Annual Parish Meeting the Council wished to thank the contractor for the high standard of workmanship in the improvements to the forecourt

8.98 Great Longstone Business Park

The Council received a letter from the National Park Authority seeking comments on appeals by various parties against enforcement notices. Unfortunately copies of the notices were not sent and these are to be requested. The Council requested the clerk to ascertain what action is being taken by the National Park Authority against the landlord in respect of the landscaping scheme for the business park

9.98 Movement of speed limit on Moor Road

The Council heard of the letter written by the Derbyshire County Council regarding the requests for the movement of speed limits on Station Road. The Council resolved not to accept the explanation given and to point out that there are current streetlights which would allow the movement of the speed limit as requested. It was resolved that the Council would seek a site meeting with appropriate representatives from Derbyshire County Council to discuss various highway matters and in particular the location of street lights.

10.98 Complaint of damage by adjoining owner at recreation ground

The Council resolved to seek an early site meeting with the Landowner concerned to discuss her suggestions as to a resolution of the alleged damage and difficulties
