MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE

86.99. Apologies for absence

None

87.99 Minutes of the last meeting held on the 8th September 1999

The Council resolved to approve the minutes

88.99. Matters arising from the minutes

None

89.99. Backdale Quarry update

The position remains the same as at the last meeting

90.99. Planning matters

To Note Approval:

  1. Application to erect a Conservatory, Endden, The Close, Great Longstone.
  2. Application to erect a Conservatory, 8 The Meadows, Great Longstone.

To Note Refusal

  1. Application to Erect a Conservatory and Porch, 1 Glebe Court, Glebe Avenue, Great Longstone.

The Council noted the Approvals and Refusal

91.99. Financial matters

To Consider Accounts Report on Audit

The Council will consider the report fully when the District Auditor has returned the Accounts

The Council resolved to approve the payments

92.99. Village Hall

The VHMC will hold the Art Show next year to help with the funding of The Great Longstone Under Fives

93.99. Playground Equipment

Mr Long will commence work on the Slide shortly. The Council resolved to obtain quotes for safety surfacing on completion and to apply to the District Council for grant aid.

94.99. Village Cross

The work is almost complete

95.99. Millennium Celebrations

A number of items were discussed including the Millennium Beacon Project and other items which have yet to be finalised. The Chairman read a letter from Mr Tresize-Hardinge about Millennium markers and noted his kind offer to contribute to the cost. The Chairman will discuss the matter direct and report at the next meeting

96.99. Allotment Land

The Clerk is to contact Mr West with details of the known tenants to expedite acquisition of the land

97.99. New Noticeboard

Councillor Bowering is liaising with the Clerk to obtain tenders for the work

98.99. Maintenance

A stile on a footpath leading south from Glebe Avenue needs renewing and various highway matters are to be reported to the relevant authorities

99.99. Turners

No further complaints have been received

100.99. Memorial Tree Bakewell Police

The Council resolved to accept the proposal for an Ornamental tree to be placed in Feemouth Yard adjacent to the site of a tree recently removed

101.99. Feemouth Yard

The Council discussed the Tenders for the work at Feemouth Yard. The Council resolved to accept the tender of Johnson’s of Chesterfield

103.99. J Long recognition for Voluntary Work

The Council wished to express their gratitude for the Voluntary work undertaken by Mr Long. After advice and discussion the Council felt unable to utilise any public funds as a token of appreciation but asked that the Councils gratitude be reiterated when Under The Edge is next published.

104.99. Best Kept Village Award

Great Longstone won the Derbyshire Village of the Year Award the Village now goes to the National finals for which a presentation will be held in London in December. The Council decided the Chairman and Vice Chairman should attend.

Councillor Crowther reported that the news of the award was given to the full meeting of the District Council and expressed her warmest congratulations on the success. The prize money from the Derbyshire award amounts to £360. A plaque is also awarded and the site for this will be discussed at the next meeting.

105.99. White Lion Entertainment’s Licence

The Council was informed that no application for an entertainment licence is to be made by the current Tenant of the White Lion.

A discussion then took place about the glass recycling facilities. The Council resolved to seek an urgent meeting with a Senior District Council Officer regarding ongoing problems about the regular emptying of the bins and the provision of larger bins.

106.99. Correspondence:

  1. Christmas Tree Recycling Scheme:  This will take place in Councillor Cox’s field as usual
  2. Derbyshire Dales Area Forums: Date noted
  3. Mrs Mallinson Re Bus Shelter: The Council resolved to write to Mrs Mallinson in reply
  4. PDNPA Parish Councils Day: Councillors Casey and Askew to attend
  5. Derbyshire Police Authority Annual Report: Noted
  6. DCC Environment Report: Noted
  7. DALC Various: Noted
  8. Great Longstone Area Pre-School: The Council will consider sympathetically the request for funding assistance and will discuss the issue when the precept is set next month
  9. Bakewell & District Mobile Physiotherapy Association The Council was sorry to hear that this valuable community based service will be wound up

The Council resolved to meet next on 17th November 1999 at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall
