MINUTES OF THE MEETING HELD ON THE
12th DAY OF December 2000

Present; Councillors Askew, Gregory, Finney, Bowering, Cox, Hirst, Fawcett.

101.00 Apologies for absence

Apologies were received from District Councillor Crowther

102.00 Minutes of the last meeting held on the 18h October 2000

The Council resolved to approve the Minutes of the meeting.

103.00 Matters arising from the minutes

There were no matters arising.

104.00 Backdale Quarry update

The Council read a letter from Mr Bent the Senior Minerals Planning Officer at the Peak Park, this gave details of the Authorities position on several matters of concern about developments on Longstone Edge. Mr Thompson reported to the meeting that the Action Group would closely scrutinise the application by Glebe Mines and consider its position at that stage. A meeting will be held on January 11th at Calver Village Hall at 7.30pm.

105.00 Planning matters

To Consider;

  1. Application to convert Builders store to single storey dwelling, Main Road Great Longstone
  2. Application for Consent Glebe Mines Ltd Re Longstone Moor/Longstone Edge etc
  3. Demolition of Garage and erection of extension to dwelling and new garage / Listed Building Consent, Ash House Main Street Great Longstone
  4. Extension to Dwelling, Wayside, Mires Lane, Great Longstone
  5. Erection of Conservatory, Ashville, Station Road, Great Longstone
  6. Peak Park Authority, Further Modification to Local Plan

The Council resolved to approve these applications except for the amendment to the Local Plan which would allow the imposition of Landfill waste in the National Park against the interests of the authority, the philosophy underlying the National Park and against local interests. The Council also resolved to delay consideration of the Minerals Application affecting Longstone Edge until it had taken further advice.

The Council approved the payments

107.00 Village Hall

The Village Hall has now been completed and has been handed over to the Parish Council. The Chairman proposed a vote of thanks to the Village Hall Committee for their hard work over several years. The Vote of thanks was unanimously approved.

108.00 Playground Equipment

Mr Long said that the safety surface could be installed around the slide and that any work will be carried out in situ. The Clerk instructed the Contractors who have now completed the work. The slide should be useable in the New Year (if it stops raining).

109.00 Old Sewerage Works

The Council considered a letter from the District Council which explained that the source of the pollution could not easily be identified. The Clerk reported his subsequent conversion with the Environmental Health Officer who confirmed that without some local identification of the source of the pollution he could not reasonably find the pollution’s source. Councillor Gregory was not satisfied with that explanation and she requested that the facts be further confirmed in writing.

The Council is also to ask for further tests in the spring and summer months.

110.00 Allotment Land/Landscaping

Several Contractors do not wish to tender for the job and therefore the tender will be broken down into smaller parts so that it might appear more attractive to contractors. Further tenders are to be sought.

111.00 Maintenance

Councillor Gregory raised an issue of fires being burned in Gildlow Quarry she explained that she had driven to the quarry to investigate the source of thick smoke. A tenant was burning a large quantity of garden waste. The Council agreed to write to the tenant asking that fires are to be kept to a smaller scale in future.

The “No Fouling ” signs have been put up round the Recreation Ground and the Council asks that Dog owners ensure that their animals do not Foul the Recreation Ground or that they clear up after them.

112.00 Glass Recycling Scheme

The Recycling trailer has not arrived twice out of the last three months. The Clerk is to write to the District Council about this problem.

113.00 Old Cross in Old Churchyard

The Clerk is to check with the District Council as to who is responsible for maintaining this Cross.

114.00 Correspondence:

  1. Council’s Solicitors re Gate to the Recreation Ground from 18 The Meadows The Council is to seek additional assistance from the County Council and District Council to protect its position.

  4. Ashford Millennium Committee re Gritstone Boundary Markers the Council agreed to pay the cost of one of the Boundary Markers.
  5. Mrs Sheila Forbes re Parking on the Verges, Butts Road, Great Longstone. The Clerk is to write to those responsible for the illegal parking

115.00 Date and Time of next meeting

The Council resolved to meet next on the 19th January 2001 next at 7.30 p.m. in the Village Hall.
